St John Ambulance of Malaysia (Malay: St. John Ambulans Malaysia, Abbreviation: SJAM) is a self-funded, non-profit, non-religious voluntary organisation, dedicated to humanitarian and charitable service since 1908, during the British administration of Malaya.

With nearly 1,500 volunteers across the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, SJAM Wilayah Persekutuan continues to uphold the motto Pro Utilitate Hominum – “For the Service of Mankind”.

From public events like festivals and parades to emergency situations such as accidents, fires and natural disasters, our volunteers are consistently on the ground providing vital assistance.

St John Junior Boys and Girls

Boys and girls aged 8 to 11 may join a St John Junior Division with written consent from their parents or guardians. This membership category is designed to support their mental and physical development, and to prepare them for the responsibilities of Cadet membership.

Junior Members are introduced to Essentials of First Aid, along with subjects such as First Aid and Nursing, the History of SJAM, Road and Home Safety, General Knowledge and Physical Recreation. To ensure age-appropriate involvement, Junior Members do not take part in actual first aid duties.

Ambulance and Nursing Cadets

Young individuals aged 10 to 18 may enrol as Cadet members with the consent of a parent or guardian. Prior Junior membership is not a prerequisite.

Through structured training in first aid and home nursing, Cadets develop the skills to serve as qualified first aiders under the supervision of senior members and officers. They also benefit from a range of youth development initiatives, including the Cadet Proficiency Scheme, Cadet Leadership Development Seminars and other youth-focused activities designed to build confidence, skills and leadership potential.

Ambulance and Nursing Adults

Individuals aged between 16 and 65 may serve as Adult members. They are involved in advanced first aid and basic life-saving activities, providing support to medical professionals such as paramedics and doctors. Members who demonstrate leadership and commitment may be appointed as officers within SJAM.

Ambulance and Nursing Officers

Officers in SJAM are experienced leaders who guide and support our volunteers in delivering first aid and ambulance services to the community. They play a key role in:

Leading Teams during public duties, emergencies, and training sessions
Conducting Training for members in first aid and emergency care
Coordinating Operations such as ambulance standby and event coverage
Upholding Standards in discipline, uniform, and SJAM values
Mentoring Youth and Cadets to become confident future leaders

Becoming an officer requires advanced training, leadership skills, and a strong commitment to serve. Our officers lead by example—serving with heart, dedication, and integrity.
