St. John Ambulance of Malaysia (Malay: St. John Ambulans Malaysia, Abbreviation: SJAM) is a self-funding, non-profit, non-religious, voluntary organisation, dedicated to the works of humanity and charity since 1908 during the British occupation in Malaya. With close to 1,500 voluntary members in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, SJAM WP strives to serve the people with our motto, “Pro Utilitate Hominum – for the Service of Mankind“.
Our volunteers are a familiar presence at public events such as sports competitions, festivals and parades. They’re also on the front lines of crises—responding to accidents, natural disasters and other emergencies.
With over 60,000 dedicated volunteers across the country, St John Ambulance Malaysia contributes more than 3.6 million service hours each year in support of humanitarian efforts. Our trained officers and members are a trusted presence at sporting events, festivals, parades and a wide range of public functions, regardless of scale. In times of crisis such as floods, fires, landslides and even in aviation accidents or incidents, they stand ready to assist in emergency response and relief efforts.
Uniformed members are committed to continuous development through structured training and leadership programmes. This includes participation in camps, conferences, courses and specialised workshops aimed at strengthening their skills, knowledge and operational readiness. Their ongoing efforts ensure they remain effective and prepared to serve in any situation.
SJAM remains deeply committed to public safety by offering round-the-clock emergency and non-emergency ambulance services. Every year during Hari Raya Puasa and Chinese New Year, our volunteers are deployed along the North-South Highway and federal trunk roads to provide critical support and assistance during these peak travel seasons.
Cadets and Juniors, the youth members of the movement, undergo leadership training and develop a range of practical skills through the Cadet Proficiency Badge Scheme. The programme aims to shape them into responsible and engaged citizens, ready to contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
